Tell Your Story.
In chapter 21 of John’s gospel, we encounter Peter after the resurrection. He has decided to go fishing. Though an experienced fisherman, he fishes through the night but catches nothing. The next morning Jesus encounters him and commands him to cast the net in a certain place beside the boat. This is the result according to John:
“So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.” John 21:11 ESV
What had not happened all night for Peter now happens easily and quickly. The difference between the night and the moment in the morning is obvious: Jesus!
We are a church that desires to see lives transformed by Jesus. We want to see life-changing conversions. We want to see marriages restored. We want to see business owners envisioned and empowered to use their wealth for kingdom purposes. We want to see the purposeless find their Christ-led story. We want to see the addicted set free. We want to see followers of Jesus encounter the living Jesus and be set ablaze with affection. We want to see the selfish serve. We want to see the immature grow in love. We want to see the lonely find a home. We want to see Christ move in us and in our community. This is why we exist. This is the fishing we are engaged in.
We have learned like Peter that “fishing” can be hard. But also, like Peter, we hear the voice of the master instructing us in 2019 to cast our net once more.
We want to hear how God been working in your life.
